Slice the red onion thinly. Place the slices in a microwave-safe container.

Prepare the onions.

Add 3 tbsp of water, cover the container loosely. Microwave for 2-3 minutes until the onion is softer but slightly crunchy.  Alternatively, blanch the onions in boiling water for 3-4 minutes and drain.
