Ground Orange Chicken

Ground orange chicken is a simplified, healthier version of your favorite American Chinese takeaway dish. The sticky sweet savory sauce with a perfect tanginess from fresh orange juice goes so well with rice! Pair with vegetables of your choice and make it into a scrumptious meal.

Ingredients
 
 

For sauce:

  • ½ cup fresh orange juice about 2 large oranges
  • ¼ cup water
  • 2 tablespoons tamari soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey

For cornstarch slurry:

  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 4 tablespoons cold water

For chicken

  • 2 tablespoons avocado oil or olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons orange zest optional but highly recommend

Optional toppings

  • orange slices
  • toasted white sesame
  • chopped scallions

Instructions
 

  • Mix all the sauce ingredients in a cup and set aside.
  • In a different cup, combine the cornstarch and water for slurry and set aside.
  • In a large pan, heat up the avocado (olive) oil and cook the garlic until fragrant.
  • Add in the ground chicken and salt. Cook fully.
  • Pour in the sauce mix and orange zest. Stir gently for one minute.
  • Give a good stir to the water + cornstarch mix from step 2, and pour over the chicken. Toss gently until the sauce thickens.
  • Serve over rice. Optional: garnish with orange slices, chopped scallions and toasted white sesame.
